Chakli murukku

Chakli is a popular salty snack enjoyed by all ages throughout India. This is a good alternative to satisfy your cravings for fried food other than potato chips. Even though fried it has the nutrition of the dhals and the spices. There are different proportions and combinations of chakli done in different regions of India. This variety is the one we enjoy buying in store for snacks. In south the tamil speaking people call it murukku.

Ingredients:
Besan - one cup
Rice flour - one cup
Dhalia flour - one cup
sesame seeds - 2 tbsp
cumin seeds - 2 tbsp
butter /ghee- 1/2 stick/2 tbsp
salt to taste
Oil for frying

Method:
Dhalia is not available in store in flour form so take a cup of dhalia and powder in your grinder.
Mix all the dry ingredients first.
You can either use butter at room temperature or add 2 tbsp of melted ghee.
add the ghee and add water into a paste that is convenient enough to go through the press.
Place oil in the pan.
fill the mixed paste into the chakli press . Test the oil by adding a small piece of paste and if it comes up immediately frying then oil is ready for frying.
start squeezing the press with your hand a but far from the oil to avoid burns. make swirls not too close or not too far. let it fry for about 5-6 minutes. take it out and drain oil.
Your chakli is ready for enjoying.
Variations: if you need spicy kind please feel free to add one or 2 tsp of chilly powder.
Adding hot ghee enhances the flavour of the chakli.
